Computer and Internet Usage Policy

General policies:
- The Trustee owns the computer system.
- Employees shall not use the computer system or the internet for personal use without the permission of a supervisor.
- Employees shall not use the Trustee’s computer system for the transmission of private or non-work related messages.
- Employees shall maintain and use his or her password exclusively and privately.
- Employee must lock or log off computer when leaving the work area and log off when departing for the day.
- Employees shall have no expectation of privacy when using office technology. Usage is monitored.
The following are prohibited activities:- Employees shall not knowingly access, transmit, receive, print, store, or knowingly download violent, hateful, sexually explicit, or racially offensive material, or material that demeans a race, religion, national origin, political affiliation, age, gender, or sexual orientation.
- Employees shall not access, transmit, receive, print, store, or download or otherwise use office equipment or facilities in a manner that is disruptive, defamatory, obscene, offensive, intended to harass, or harmful to morale.
- Employees shall not use office automation technology to operate a personal business.
- Employees shall not solicit for commercial, charitable, political, or other causes.
- Employees shall not maintain personal software applications on office computers, and may not download or upload personal software except as permitted by the standing trustee.
- Employees shall not use personal chat rooms or use instant messaging.
- Employees shall not forward personal mail received at the office to their personal internet provider or vice versa.
- Employees shall not sell or allow others to use office hardware, software, or facilities, unless approved by the standing trustee.
- Employees shall not seek to misuse or harm the standing trustee’s computer systems or the systems of others by making unauthorized changes to the operating system, software applications or data, or by attempting to deny access or enter sites and files without authority.
- Employees shall not disclose passwords to anyone, including co-workers without the direct personal permission of the standing trustee.
Passwords:- Employees must change passwords at least every 90 days or more often if compromised or if directed by your supervisor; choose a password at least 8 characters in length; and use at least 3 of the following 4 characters: upper case letters, lower case letters, numbers, and/or special characters.
- Do not share passwords with anyone.
Employees shall notify the Trustee or a manager if he or she becomes aware of violations of policy. An employee who violates the above policies will be subject to disciplinary action which may include termination of employment.
